SRFC
was formed in 1923 and apart from a short period during the second world war has
provided facilities for playing rugby for players of all ages.
We have now been at the Memorial Field by kind permission of the
Governors of Spalding Grammar School since the mid 1950’s and in 1973 the club
built its first permanent clubhouse and changing facilities at the Memorial
Field. Since then the club has continued
to expand and in the early eighties fielded four sides on a regular basis.
Since then the senior side of the club has been reduced to three senior
teams but a major expansion has been made of Youth and Junior sides.
The club recognised that to secure its future then it needed to invest in
personnel, time and resources in the youth and junior sections.
We now have two coaches for each age group from under 6’s to Colts all with a
minimum of level one coaching qualifications. We
also have a number of other coaches qualified to level two, one qualified at
level three and another proceeding towards level three qualification later this
year. The club over the last few years
has benefited from the investment in Junior Rugby seeing a number of players
progress into the first team squad and others gain valuable experience in the
Development Team which has a blend of youth and experience in its players.
At the beginning of this
season the club was fortunate to be able to appoint Ben Hausermann as player
coach for the senior teams. Ben has
bought a high standard of fitness and understanding of the game to players as
well as creating a great deal of enthusiasm through out the club.
Ben must take a great deal of the credit for the way the first team squad
has progressed this season. On the
community side the club has been able to appoint Jamie Anthony as the Community
Rugby Coach for the South Holland area. Jamie
who qualified last year at Leeds University with a degree in Sports management
is now directly employed by the Spalding High School Sports Partnership bringing
rugby and other sports to schools in our area. This
position is supported financially by the Spalding Rugby Club.
The Club has a wide range of social activities taking place through out the year
which can be viewed in the Club News section of the web site but they include a
Summer Ball, Members Golf Day, Vice Presidents lunches and Vice Presidents
Dinner.
As a club we wish to encourage more people to play rugby at whatever level and to become involved as supporters either with the many tasks involved in running a successful club or just on the touchline. Have a look through our website and we would be delighted if you contact us.
